Hey Guys,
Today’s post is going to be a step by step tutorial for how we straighten our naturally curly hair. I know there are different ways and methods and so we wanted to share ours!
First step is to make sure your hair is thoroughly clean, next I applied a deep conditioner and then used my Hair Therapy Wrap (review coming soon) and let it sit for an hour.
After rinsing out the deep conditioner I sectioned her hair in four sections like so:
Then I applied a small amount of leave in conditioner to each section
Next I banded her hair to air dry overnight. Since I am already using enough heat with the straightening process I like skip a step if I can and for us this method of drying allows us to skip blow drying and allows the hair to be nice and stretched.
The next day I took one section down at a time and begin to straighten her hair. This is what her dry stretched hair looked like after taking out a banded section
Before I began to straighten her hair I used a heat protectant to protect her natural hair from any heat damage and to also seal in the moisture I added the previous night. I choose to use grapeseed oil but you can use any kind of heat protectant!
To straighten Jordyn’s hair I have found that I get better results when I press her hair using the heat from an open flame (stove) and a pressing comb rather than a flat iron.
Here is a picture various sizes of hot combs or pressing combs
Now if you’ve never used a pressing comb before then I would suggest finding a tutorial first, you can easily burn your hair out if the comb is left on the fire too long and gets too hot. Now I’ve been using pressing combs for years so I know just how hot to get them! I use this method over a flat iron because I get better results especially at the roots where I can’t get the flat iron without burning :(
So here is the section after I pressed it out
And there you go! I finished up the remaining sections and then I did a little trim on her ends and wrapped her hair for the night. (Wrapping the hair is simply combing or brushing the hair in a circular motion) then adding a satin cap to night
And here is her hair the next day styled!
I hope you guys found this tutorial helpful!
Enjoy!

Her hair looks great!!
Thanks Katherine!
