Flexi Rod Set on Natural Hair

Hello beauties :) My mother-in-law recently gave me set of flexi rods and I decided to give them a whirl. I started on dry semi-stretched hair I sectioned my hair off into 5 sections and I only had 12 flexi rods to work with so I had to be creative and make it work honey! I used plain water from a spray bottle and a little Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream for moisture and some of my Wise Made pomade to seal in my moisture. This is the size I used, they are small but you can fit a good amount of hair on one rod surprisingly. Now can someone please tell me why I thought I could sleep comfortably in these things?!?! I was fooled by their soft foamy texture. Needles to say I didn't sleep well AT ALL. So now I know for next time I'll air dry all day or sit under my hooded dryer. Anyhoo the next day I used a little oil to separate and fluff and here are my results: I loved my curl definition! I received so many … [Read more...]

Flat Twisted Side Curls on Natural Hair

Hey Guys, I'm back with a new hair style I came up with for Jordyn. I started by washing her hair with Herbal Essence Naked Volume Shampoo then I conditioned with Aussie Moist conditioner. Next I sectioned her hair in 4 sections and I added a quarter sized amount of Cantu Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Repair Cream  and grapeseed oil to each section. I detangled with my wide tooth comb and then used my blow dry to dry her hair completely. Next I added a tiny bit of gel for hold and began flat twisting all of her hair to one side of her head. I secured each flat twist with rubber bands. For the loose hair left out I used my curling wand to add curls. That night I used flexi rods to preserve the curls for the next day and she slept with her satin scarf on. This style will last us an entire week by tying it up at night and using the flexi rods to keep the curls in. There are many variations on this style, you can do it on wet hair, dry hair, … [Read more...]

Roller Set on Natural 4a Hair

Hey Guys! I wanted to try something new on Jordyn's hair so I made a quick run to my local indoor swap-meet and purchased some large magnetic rollers so I could try out a roller set on her :) I first started by washing and conditioning her hair using Miss Jessie's Super Slip Sudsy Shampoo   Next I used Aussie Moist Conditioner   For my styling aides I used Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream   and good old fashion hair grease to seal the ends and lock in the moisture.   She sat under the hooded dryer for about an hour and 15 min and then once her hair was dry I took the rollers out and pin curled the curls for bed.   I put her satin bonnet on for bedtime and the next morning I took the pin curls down, fluffed her hair out and separated the curls. I also added two flat twists on each side of her head and in the middle I tried to do an inward french braid, it doesn't look so great up close … [Read more...]

Quick Heatless Curls on Natural Hair

Hey Guys, We were headed to my aunt's house for a BBQ on the 4th of July and I needed a quick style for Jordyn's hair. The night before I put her hair in one ponytail and then whipped out my magic leverage curlers (knock off curl formers) that I purchased on Ebay. I decided to put them in her bangs too just see how it would come out.   I used a water from a spray bottle and a little shea butter mix and Eco Styler gel for this style.   she slept over time with a bonnet on and these are the results we got.     We just separated the curls and were on our way, and that's how we achieve our heat-less curls on natural hair. Enjoy!   … [Read more...]

Half Up Half Down: Christmas Hairstyle

Hey Guys! I have been on a little mini vacation from work  for the last six days, and it's been great! I've neglected the blog a little, sorry about that! But I am back sharing with you guys how Jordyn wore her hair for Christmas 2012. We did a Half Up Half Down Christmas Hairstyle Her hair was already previously straightened so I opted for simple style.   I started with a side part and grabbed small sections of hair around the hairline and rolled then up upward (not tightly) into a rolling twist and then I secured the two ends to back of her head with a small black rubber band and added a festive hair clip! I curled the ends with a curling iron, but you can achieve the same look with rollers. I was pressed for time so I had to use the curling iron, otherwise I would have used rollers. And here is her Christmas Outfit   Top (Christmas gift from last year) Tights (gifted by a friend) Shoes (Walmart $8)   … [Read more...]

Flat Twist Updo on Natural Hair

Hey Guys! I am so late in sharing this style :( but better than never sharing right?! Right! :) So here is how Jordyn wore her hair for Thanksgiving day. I wanted something sort of fancy but something that didn't take too long to do, I came up with this number. I started by parting her hair horizontally from ear to ear and the back half I had four separate ponytails that connected upwards to the crown of her head. For the top half of the head I did a free style flat twist design and then I did a simple two strand twist for all the loose hair remaining, added a few sponge rollers to curl the ends and that's it!  After a few hours (probably around 3) I took the sponge rollers out and undid the two strand twists for a twist out :)   This style lasted us a week and I used our Blended Beauty products to achieve the look. Enjoy! … [Read more...]

Finger Curls

So I saw someone use this technique over on lhcf and I wanted to try it out myself and see if it would work. I started on freshly washed and deep conditioned hair and I used Blended Beauty's Curl Styling Butter and sealed with Coconut Oil. First I put my hair in a high ponytail, then I grabbed small sections of hair and smooth it with my Conair brush. Then I just twisted the section of hair around my finger and held it for about 10 seconds Then I just let the hair fall And here are a couple of pics with my whole ponytail done and while my hair was still wet, it took about 15-20 min to do so not bad Here is how my hair looked the next day completely dry And here is 2nd day hair I love the results, my curls were more defined and I had virtually no frizz :) Enjoy! … [Read more...]

Flat Twist Out with Perm Rods

I wanted to try something different for Christmas this year so I found this cute style done by MsDanti1 on youtube. I started this style on freshly washed and deep conditioned hair using Ouidad Shampoo and Aussie Moist 3 Min. Miracle Deep Conditioner. I had two rows of flat twists going from ear to ear in the front of my head going forward, all remaining flat twists on the sides and in the back were going downward (vertical). I used Blended Beauty's Curl Styling Butter (Review Coming Soon) and sealed with Coconut Oil. I also used two different sized perm rods on the ends to curl them, thinking that if I used bigger rods in the back I wouldn't have so much shrinkage and I could wear it all down. Well.............Not so much I looked like I had a Jheri curl (Granted it isn't fluffed to it's full potential but in any case I wasn't feeling it) So I pinned it all up and to the side and added a cute bow I purchased at Mocha Rose Creations Here is the finished … [Read more...]

Heatless Curl on Straightened Hair | Sponge Rollers

So I did an unplanned flat iron on my hair the other day but I didn't want to wear it straight, I also didn't want to add any additional heat to my hair to transform the straight hair into curls.  So I decided to use my handy dandy sponge rollers and curl my hair. I slept with the rollers in overnight and in the morning this is what my hair looked like in the morning and this is what my hair looked like at the end of the night (13 hours later) Soooo all the curls pretty much fell lol but it's okay :) Enjoy! … [Read more...]
