After yours truly (really it was just a snippet) was featured in the article about natural hair for Today.com I was contacted by Knot Genie to try out one of their detangling brushes on Jordyn’s hair.
Knot Genie was invented by a Denver mom of three daughters, Rikki Mor.
The secret to how Knot Genie detangling brush works is two-fold: 1) the bristles vary in length, so hair glides through it; and 2) there are no little balls at the end of each bristle, which pull and damage hair.
I’ll admit I was a little skeptical about trying it out and almost declined the offer. But I said to myself: “Self, be open-minded and give it a try.” So I did just that.
Knot Genie comes in a variety of sizes from regular to teeny to the supreme. I had the pleasure of trying out the supreme Knot Genie.
The company listened to their customers when they said they would love a Knot Genie with a handle and they delivered just that! I choose to review the supreme (handled brush) because when I am detangling Jordyn’s hair I always do it while she has a hair full of conditioner so the detangling process is less damaging on her curls. If I didn’t have a handled brush I know that the traditional brush would fumble out of my hands. What can I say I’m a little clumsy, but it’s also just a personal preference.
The brush comes with two different sized bristles in each row, the bristle configuration and tension strength is designed to painlessly coax knots apart and not pull them. This brush helps to reduce the stress on the hair’s cuticle and reduces hair breakage.
I LOVE this brush! Did ya’ll hear me? I LOVE IT, our detangling process was literally cut in half using this brush. I don’t know how it does it but like the company claims it magically and painlessly detangles the hair.
This has definitely become a new staple product that I would recommend to anyone with any hair type. The Knot Genie dentagles all hair types from straight to curly as well as natural to synthetic hair.
I’ve used this brush to detangle Jordyn’s hair (and my own) about 3-4 times already and we haven’t experienced any breakage. I can definitely see with my own eyes how it makes the hair smoother.
